High School Senior Photography Frequently Asked Questions

  • The summer after your junior year of high school is the best time to schedule your high school portrait session. This is when senior photo season officially starts and you will want to get booked with a local photographer before their calendar fills up.

Keep in mind that many of the high schools in Missoula, Montana have a yearbook deadline for submitting your photo by early December. Fall can be a busy time of year for high school seniors and photographers, so booking your senior session in the summer is wise.

  • This is totally up to you and what you want to communicate or remember about your senior. If you have a favorite outdoor location that they enjoy I can meet you there. If you prefer more traditional studio portraits we can also do that. Interested in doing both?? I offer that as a package option.

  • I do not style my clients. I firmly believe that you should come to your sessions as a true version of yourself and that means wearing clothes that are true to you. I encourage my clients to shop their own closets for their favorite outfit. You can find more tips for choosing your outfits here.

  • For a 1 hour photo session, plan to bring 2-3 outfits. If you are doing your session at two different locations bring and additional 2-3 outfits that coordinate with your surroundings.

If you have a high school letterman’s jacket or a sweatshirt or top for your future college or university you are welcome to bring those as well.

  • You do not need to bring anything to the session. However if you have a hobby or sport that you want to incorporate into your session you are welcome to do so. Just let me know before hand so that I can plan for it.

  • This is also up to you. If you are comfortable doing your own makeup there is no need for hiring someone to do this. However, if you are interested in hiring a make-up artist, I am happy to give you a referral.

  • Seniors can sometimes come with that pesky acne and other blemishes. I do my best to honor the real person in front of me but also make you look like your best self. I do minor retouching for clearing up acne and other unwanted blemishes but I do not change your appearance or skin enough that you won’t recognize yourself. If you want further retouching after the gallery is delivered we can discuss options.
